| Letters & Comments: "That was the most execllent story I have ever heard!" -- Vivi, 5 year old Upper Dublin Christian Nursery School Don, Thank you again for taking the time to come to our class! We loved the story and the rocket launching was awesome! I think you have started something in our class. Thanks again and feel free to visit again! -- Missy Hedeman, Teacher, John Barclay Elementary "That was the BEST story ever!" -- Tricia, 6 year old, Camp Curiosity Dear Don, I wanted to thank you on behalf of Norwood School for your recent visit. I had high hopes for your campfire story, but all you brought to our students far exceeded them. The story was absolutely fantastic, and our students loved hearing their names throughout the tale. After your visit, we had a meeting of our Home and School Association. Apparently, the students had gone home and raved about you and the story, because our parents were absolutely thrilled and insist that we have you back again next year. I would highly recommend you to any other Elementary School. Your stories are engaging, and the way you interact with the students is truly wonderful. As you may recall, our students made the whole day a "camp out" in their classrooms. They came to school with their sleeping bags, lanterns, flashlights, and other camp gear and were ready for you when you arrived. Your use of effects for thunder and lightning, and props for rowing in canoes and bugs (ew!) were brilliant and kept the students on their toes. Our teachers elaborated on your visit by sharing with students a little about camping and wildlife, and I taught them campfire songs. After you left, they made s'mores and curled up with a good book. We used your story to celebrate Read Across America, and what a celebration it was! Thank you again for everything! We look forward to your visit next year. Sincerely, Sandra Leach Music Teacher/Program Coordinator Norwood Elementary School Dear Mr. Dougherty, We love how you put everyone's name in the story and everyone liked the water squirter. We hope you had a good time too. Oh, and one more thing, thank you for the book. From, Rachel, Student, Lower Salford Elementary Dear Mr. Dougherty, Thank you! Thank you for making such a wonderful story about our class. It was very kind of you to launch rockets at school with us. Thank you very much! From, Phillip, Student, John Barclay Elementary Dear Don, When you're good, you're good, but I hear you are great! The kids at camp were amazed at the story. My counselors said you had them eating out of the palm of your hand. What great reports I received about you!! Thank you for keeping your word. You said they would enjoy themselves, and they certainly did. We are definitely interested in booking your Halloween Story in October, and your Christmas Story in December. We will call you soon to make the arrangements. Thanks Again, Pam Pharr Co-Owner, Pam & Pam's Latchkey Kids Program Fellow Reading Specialists, I wanted to tell you about an author who was just here, Don Dougherty. He has a little business called Classroom Adventure Stories. He started out by writing a story for his son's 3rd grade class when he was asked to be a guest reader. His stories are interactive and the kids really get involved in them. He brings props with him and he personalizes each book with the teacher of that class and every student as a character. He just came to Kulp Elementary to read to our first graders for our "camping themed" RIF. The children are still talking about him and are asking when he can come back. He also has a space mission story. I am trying to get him back to do that with our 4th graders. Again, each child will be in his story and at the end, he takes them outside and launches model rockets with them. -- Stacy L. Hall, Reading Specialist, A.M. Kulp Elementary School Don, Thank you so much for your time the other day. Everyone loved the campfire story. The kids also enjoyed learning all the 'new' words. The kids are still talking about the story. Thanks Again! Megan Case, Teacher, Lower Salford Elementary Dear Mr. D., I had a great time listening to the story and launching rockets. I hope I get to see you again next year. From, Ian, Student, John Barclay Elementary Mr. Dougherty, Thank you so much for sharing your storytelling talent with our first graders. Camp Learned-A-Lot was cool too! Have a nice day. Sincerely, Haleigh, Student, Lower Salford Elemetary Dear Mr. Dougherty, Your story was amazing. My favorite part was when I said my hair is going to get ruined. You are a wonderful storyteller! Your friend, Grace, Student, A. M. Kulp Elementary "It was fun, interesting, and educational!" -- Aliyah, Student, Norwood Elementary "He was professional and educational, but above all, he kept the children's attention!" --Petra, Teacher, Today's Child Learning Center "I liked when you used our names. And I really liked the lightning!" -- Emily, Student, Lower Salford Elementary "You Rock Mr. D. -- You're the best!" -- Maya, Student, John Barclay Elementary "Fabulous! Taught the children teamwork and perseverance." -- Amy, Teacher, Today's Child Learning Center "You're Awesome Mr. D.!" -- Jeff, Student, John Barclay Elementary Hello, It was nice to see you! Thank you for reading the story to us. Please come again. Jordan Student, HMS School for Children with Cerebral Palsey Don, The children are still talking about your presentation for my daughter Karla's birthday party. It was great! Thanks, Eilene Shaffer Don, I just wanted to say thank you so much for sharing your stories with us. I have to admit that I was kind of skeptical when they told us there was a guy coming to tell us a story. I thought, how good can it be? Boy was I ever wrong!! You came first in the summer to share some stories with our summer camp program and then again just before Halloween. I thought it was so cool that you had us (the teachers) help with some of the props. However, the most amazing part was watching the kids respond. Lord knows it's sometimes hard keeping the crew focused, but you really captivated them! I can't wait to see your Christmas story. You rock!! Thank you so much!! Blessings, Lisa Myers Teacher, Pam & Pam's Latchkey Program | |
